How I Go to the Woods By Mary Oliver Ordinarily, I go to the woods alone, with not a single friend, for they are all smilers and talkers and therefore unsuitable. I don’t really want to be witnessed talking to the catbirds or hugging the old black oak tree. I have my way of praying, as you no doubt have yours. Besides, when I am alone I can become invisible. I can sit on the top of a dune as motionless as an uprise of weeds, until the foxes run by unconcerned. I can hear the almost unhearable sound of the roses singing. If you have ever gone to the woods with me, I must love you very much. Check out the extraordinary art work of Scottish artist, Andy Goldsworthy! His work includes brightly colored flowers, icicles, leaves, mud, pinecones, snow, stone, twigs, and thorns. Many of his pieces are designed to be lasting structures however most of them only last moments before they are taken away by a sudden wind or a change in temperature.
Want to know more about his process? The PRHS Library has four of his inspirational and stunning books in it's collection that are ready to be checked out! Check out the incredible artwork of Sophie Gamand! Gamand is a French award-winning photographer and animal advocate living and working in New York City. Since 2010, she has been focusing on dogs and our relationship with them. Her work is unique and extremely moving (okay, a lot of her images are also adorable)!
Her most known series are Wet Dog and Flower Power, Pit Bulls of the Revolution. |
