Art to me is much more than just a class, a credit, a check on the attendance list. Art is being told to do a project, reaching a certain objective but doing it how you imagine it. Mixing and creating colors to fit the perfectly imperfect picture you have in your mind. Being able to express my ideas and not having to ask if it fulfills the rubric or guidelines, just going for it and making it up as you go. This aspect of art, I have always believed it to be a release and a part of me. I have always been a shy person, though through creating art I have learned to let go and just go with the flow regardless of what others think. Because in art doesn’t matter what it looks like if you say it is expressing something, then people may be able to relate to it. There will always be critics out there but that’s part of life, because no matter what you do people will always view things in different ways, that’s what makes it so beautiful
Ms. Donovan has been an inspiration to me, with her carefree attitude. She has taught me patience with my artwork, to step away and see the big picture. I am thankful I took Drawing and painting this year. It has not only taught me as a student but has shown me different aspects about myself. With the choice of taking this course, I wouldn’t have the honor of being Artist of the Month. I would like to thank Literary Magazine for nominating me and Ms. Donovan for having me as a student.
